Wednesday was an early morning for most Cattle Industry Convention attendees. The Cattlemen's College, sponsored by Zoetis (formerly known as Pfizer), kicked off at 7:30 am with an keynote address from futurist Dr. Lowell Catlett.

John Nielsen-Gammon, Texas A&M University climatologist, was among presenters in a series of Cattlemen’s College sessions devoted to drought. He says one easy way to remember the precipitation conditions generally manifested by El Nino and La Nina patterns is that the El Nino usually brings “extra liquid" (El), while the La Nina usually brings “less agua,” or La. Agua, of course, is Spanish for water.

In the New Beef Cuts & Methods of Preparing Beef session, participants learned about fresh, convenient beef options for consumers, one of which was microwavable beef.

The opening session featured a keynote address by Leigh Ann and Sean Tuohy. Their story was chronicled in the best-selling movie The Blind Side; their son Michael Oher plays for the Baltimore Ravens. They shared a simple message about the power of a single act of kindness.
