The Tampa Convention center is buzzing with activities during the 2013 Cattle Industry Convention. Over 6,000 cattlemen are at the show.
There will be plenty of cowboy boots in downtown Tampa this week. Cattle Industry Convention events run from Tuesday to Saturday.
The sun (and the water) are a welcome sight for most cattlemen. The convention center sits right on the bay.
Wednesday was an early morning for most Cattle Industry Convention attendees. The Cattlemen's College, sponsored by Zoetis (formerly known as Pfizer), kicked off at 7:30 am with an keynote address from futurist Dr. Lowell Catlett.
In his Cattlemen’s College keynote address, futurist Lowell Catlett told attendees that the future is exceedingly bright for U.S. beef producers.
This was the 20th Anniversary of the Cattlemen's College. Topics ranged from drought to generational transfer to consumer trends and more.
John Nielsen-Gammon, Texas A&M University climatologist, was among presenters in a series of Cattlemen’s College sessions devoted to drought. He says one easy way to remember the precipitation conditions generally manifested by El Nino and La Nina patterns is that the El Nino usually brings “extra liquid" (El), while the La Nina usually brings “less agua,” or La. Agua, of course, is Spanish for water.

In the New Beef Cuts & Methods of Preparing Beef session, participants learned about fresh, convenient beef options for consumers, one of which was microwavable beef.
