Wildfire danger HIGH
While it's been a year of moisture extremes, some regions that enjoyed high rainfall are facing the prospects of high wildfire danger. Oklahoma, for instance, “is faced with as high a grass fuel load as we've ever had,” says Terry Bidwell, Oklahoma Extension rangeland ecology and management specialist.
Bidwell says the situation becomes even worse when cedar trees are added to the mix, according to Radio Oklahoma Network. Bidwell suggests pastures be grazed or mowed, and homeowners keep grass mowed 100 ft. out from the house and buildings. For more on protecting your house and buildings, go to www.firewise.org.
