Are feedlot rations really grain-based? Isn't a large percentage of the rations still roughage?
One message I'd like to get out to the public is that my cows live on roughage - which is otherwise a waste product.
And my understanding of the feedlot is that a main component of the ration is still silage - and even straw - and now distiller's by-products.
In our industry we need to BRAG that we make a highly-nutritious and highly-flavorful product, mostly from 'natural and sustainable' solar collectors that would otherwise be wasted.
And yes, I DO buy my bulls on the basis of the Red Angus 'Maintenance Energy' EPDs.
