Joe Diffie’s Song “Pickup Man” Has A Lot Of Truth To It



Women find pickup trucks irresistible, plus 10 new farm trucks for 2014 and 2015. 

It appears ’90s country superstar, Joe Diffie, knew a thing or two when it comes to romance. Unequivocally, a pickup truck can attract the ladies more than anything else, he asserts in his mega-hit song, “Pickup Man.”

Surely you remember the song. It went a little something like this: “You can set my truck on fire, and roll it down a hill, And I still wouldn't trade it for a Coupe DeVille. I've got an eight-foot bed that never has to be made. You know if it weren't for trucks we wouldn't have tailgates. I met all my wives in traffic jams. There's just something women like about a Pickup Man!”



With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, maybe you already have plans with your wife or girlfriend to pick her up in your truck and head to town for a nice candlelit dinner featuring a big, juicy steak, of course.  And if you’re wondering why you don’t have a date, studies indicate it might be your ride that’s holding you back.

The results of a survey on indicate that trucks are the most attractive vehicle – in women’s eyes – for a man to drive. That would appear to be good news for eligible cattlemen; after all, there’s no shortage of pickups on a ranch.

According to the new survey by, “Women say that attractive men tend to drive black Ford pickup trucks. Women ranked these styles as cars that attractive men drive: pickup trucks, 32%; sports cars, 27%; SUVs,16%; sedans, 11%; hybrid or electric, 9%; UPS truck, 4%; minivans, 2%; and mail truck, 1%.

"The top brands of car for attractive men, as ranked by women, were Ford (16%), Chevrolet (13%) and Porsche (11%). Women overwhelmingly point to black (53%) as the color of cars driven by good-looking men, followed by silver (16%) and red (13%)."

Dodge with the Cummins deisel is the prefered truck of which I have 3 a 90 3/4ton a 98 1ton with Hydrabed and a 06 1ton all 4X4.

I run a couple dodges with a cummins, and a couple Fords with the Powerstroke. Run the dodges cause the cummins is pretty much maintenance free and they were much cheaper than ford or chevy when we bought them - newest dodge is an 01. Everything else is a ford. Always been ford folks, but after the government bailout bs of a few year ago, this will ALWAYS be a ford outfit. Ford took no government money but yet survived, that's enough to make everything newer around this outfit the blue oval. Fiat from Italy owns Chrysler, and the US government still owns an undisclosed amount of GM. Ford person or not, got to respect the fact that their people had everything together enough to make it through those tough bailout years. If the cards were left to fall as they may, chrysler and gm would have went broke and Ford would have had the chance to buy them both for pennies on the dollar - same thing that happens in every other industry when bad decisions lead to the demise of a business. Oh, but wait, insert government bailout - postpone the problem for a few years!!

My bad, you are correct.

DETROIT (AP) — The U.S. government ended up losing $10.5 billion on the General Motors bailout, but it says the alternative would have been far worse.

The Treasury Department sold its final shares of the Detroit auto giant on Monday, recovering $39 billion of the $49.5 billion it spent to save the dying automaker at the height of the financial crisis five years ago.

Ford all of the way!!! No government money and they have always held up great around the farm

One thing we quit doing is driving new pickups no matter who builds them. They just do not hold up under the punishment of what we do here. We've gone back to using what held up here in the past.

I keep my eye open for any pre-1989 Chevrolet or GM 1 ton dually's preferably with the long wheel base such as the 154" or we stretch them to fit the flat beds we built in the 70's that are bullet proof and have been changed from truck to truck for going on 40 years now.

The first thing about the earlier trucks is "the doors don't fall off" as does any thing built since 1990.

We quit caring about what they look like a long time ago.

For the dates I go on with my "Valentine" of forty years the old ones work just fine.

And the cows are used to them. They would run away in a complete panic if I pulled in with a load of feed on a shiny new pickup. :-) LOL

I quit buying GM products for two reasons. 1) They took our money in the bailout, and 2) You can't buy a GM pickup with a manual transmission any more.
