Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) has hit 36 cities and provinces across Vietnam, infecting 10,500 pigs, and 26,000 bulls and buffalo, the Vietnam News Agency reports. Vietnam's Ministry of Ag and Rural Development says a total 433 communes have been affected, with cases reported in the northern, central, central highlands, and southern regions. Xinhau blames the spread on cross-border cattle smuggling, and localities nationwide are beefing up control in affected areas. -- Joe Roybal
