Deal on Iowa plant said near
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports Tama, IA, is getting closer to reopening its Iowa Quality Beef Processing Plant. In the article, Keith DeHaan, a Kansas City consultant arranging the deal between Iowa Quality Beef Supply Cooperative and Elkhorn Valley Packing, says a letter of intent has been signed and the details are “coming along but not done.” The Harper, KS-based Elkhorn Valley Packing would supply operational expertise for the plant that closed following discovery of a BSE-infected cow in Washington state in spring 2003.
