Nebraska feedlot roundtables

Nebraska feedlot owners and operators can learn more about animal health and cattle trade at the 2006 Beef Feedlot Roundtable.

Presented by University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) Extension and offered in three locations, the roundtables are set for Feb. 7 in Columbus, Feb. 8 in Lexington, and Feb. 9 in Gering. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m., and the program 30 minutes later.

Among the morning topics and speakers are:

  • Proper antibiotic therapy, Dan Upson, Kansas State University;

  • Current and future opportunities of the Nebraska feedlot industry, Terry Klopfenstein, UNL;

  • Research and facilities update, Terry Mader and Galen Erickson, UNL;

  • New beef products/demand, Nebraska Beef Council staff.

Following lunch:

  • BSE testing and disease, Dave Smith, UNL;

  • Rendering industry changes and implications for feedlots, Ross Hamilton, Darling International;

  • Beef and cattle trade after BSE and an outlook for 2006, Darrell Mark, UNL;

  • Quality system assessment and export requirements, including the role of animal ID.

In addition, UNL Extension educators, Don Levis and Dewey Lienemann, will present a pen rider training video at the Lexington and Gering locations.
