Iowa: There were 1,304,000 cattle on feed for the slaughter market in all feedlots in Iowa on Dec. 1, up 6% from Nov. 1 and up 2% from Dec. 1, 2008. Feedlots with a capacity greater than 1,000 head had 560,000 head on feed, up 4% from last month and up 12% from last year. Feedlots with a capacity less than 1,000 head had 744,000 head on feed, up 7% from last month, but down 5% from last year.

Placements during November totaled 265,000 head, up 5% from last month and up 11% from last year. Feedlots with a capacity greater than 1,000 head placed 108,000 head, down 12% from last month, but up 17% from last year. Feedlots with a capacity less than 1,000 head placed 157,000 head. This is up 21% from last month and up 8 percent from last year.

Marketings for November were 191,000 head, down 11% from last month, but up 14% from last year. Feedlots with a capacity greater than 1,000 head marketed 85,000 head, down 15% from last month, but up 13% from last year. Feedlots with a capacity less than 1,000 head marketed 106,000 head, down 8% from last month, but up 14% from last year. Other disappearance totaled 5,000 head.
