Los Angeles City Council Declares All Future Mondays To Be 'Meatless'

Los Angeles has embraced the Meatless Mondays campaign.

More About:

The Los Angeles City Council has declared every Monday to be a so-called 'meatless Monday,' and is urging all residents to participate in the weekly day of vegetarianism.

NBC Los Angeles reports that, with the vote, Los Angeles has become the largest city to embrace the Meatless Monday campaign, a nonprofit with the goal of cutting down on meat consumption for health and environmental reasons.

Neither city officials nor law enforcement will be allowed to force residents to not eat meat, the Los Angeles Daily News reports. Rather, the resolution is meant to encourage residents to not eat meat once a week in the hopes of starting a city-wide trend.

Councilwoman Jan Perry, who has pushed for a ban on new fast-food restaurants in South Los Angeles, says the resolution is part of an overall "good food" agenda for the city.

"We can reduce saturated fats and reduce the risk of heart disease by 19%," Perry says according to the Los Angeles Daily News. "While this is a symbolic gesture, it is asking people to think about the food choices they make. Eating less meat can reverse some of our nation's most common illnesses."

To me, what the City Council of LA is doing is equivalent to saying: "we declare that Mondays should be praying day, and we urge all citizens to pray on every Monday". How does it sound?

This city council is as bad as ABC News and that's about as low as you can get. How can someone in their position be so misguided, uninformed and clueless, attempting to deceive constituents, forcing this science-less, emotion based ideology down their throats in the guise good health practice.

This council has shown it knows nothing about health or the environment and certainly has no business being in the position they are.

If they want to help their environment and combat obesity they should try leaving the car in the garage and walk some pounds off their fat a$$.

So, do they have no other, more pressing problems in Los Angeles facing the city's government, that they turn their focus towards their citizens' food selections? How about addressing their citizens' preference for not being crime victims? How about addressing their citizens' wish for better traffic flow, or better streets?

They should have soda-less Monday's instead of meatless ones :)

I thought California was supposed to fall off into the Pacific. When is that going to happen?

I will live, eat, worship, etc. as I see fit for me, it is not for anyone or any form of Government to tell us they know what is best for you.
