Red Angus uses Facebook for unique silent auction

Just in time for this year's breeding season is an exciting donation of one of the year's hottest sires and the proceeds go directly to the Junior Red Angus Program (JRA). Mushrush Red Angus of Strong City, Kan., and Buffalo Creek Red Angus of Leiter, Wyo., have teamed up to offer 10 straws and 5 certificates from Buffalo Creek Lancer R017 (Reg. #1050008), the sire of both operations' high-selling individuals and their most exciting and sought-after sire groups.

The Mushrush Red Angus 2010 catalog stated, "Buffalo Creek Lancer R017 is truly a unique individual. With the progeny averages he has compiled he is definitely on the way to becoming a true breed-impact sire. As Gini Chase says, ‘the race to find the best Lancer 442 son is over.’ Unfortunately, R017 was lost due to injury. While we have enough semen for our own use, none will be available for sale. We expect his sons to be in high demand. There are 13 in this sale, each capable of becoming a major herd sire in his own right."

R017 is the definition of a “spread” bull. He ranks in the top 9% of the breed with a 13 CED EPD but goes on to rank in the top 11% of the breed with a 44 WW EPD and rank in the top 6% with a 86 YW EPD. He backs those numbers up with a -1 ME EPD (14%), a 6 CEM EPD (22%) and a 17 STAY EPD (2%), all while delivering the outstanding carcass traits you would expect from the proven Lancer line with a 0.24 MARB (9%), 0.28 REA (13%) and -0.01 FAT (10%).

R017’s most exciting trait is the consistency he sires in his progeny – bulls with power, moderation of frame, good feet and legs, leading carcass traits, calving ease with muscle definition, depth of rib that carries through the flank and width of base from front shoulders through the rear legs.

This is your one and only opportunity to purchase semen on this young herdsire that is proving to be a standout in the Red Angus breed, all while benefiting the JRA! To participate in the silent auction, log on to the Red Angus Association of America's (RAAA) new Facebook.com page.
