Extended release dewormer
LONGRANGE™ extended-release deworming product has received FDA approval. LONGRANGE is the first product to offer parasite control up to 100-150 days, depending on the parasite, which breaks the parasite lifecycle.
LONGRANGE achieves extended control with unique technology. When the product is injected subcutaneously, it provides immediate parasite control, just like conventional dewormers. Beginning about 70 days after injection, however, the technology releases a second dose of eprinomectin to provide a second round of control.
LONGRANGE is a prescription drug and is approved for almost all classes of beef cattle except breeding bulls, fed cattle and cattle under intensive grazing management, defined as 50,000 lbs./acre and moved every four days or less. It’s safe to use in pregnant and lactating cows and in calves. However, since a withdrawal time hasn’t been established for pre-ruminating calves, it shouldn’t be used in veal calves. Withdrawal time for other classes of beef cattle is 48 days. The suggested dose is 1 ml/110 lbs. of body weight, meaning a 550-lb. calf would get 5 ml injected subcutaneously in front of the shoulder.
Merial says the product controls eight economically important parasites, including internal parasites such as ostertagia, cooperia and haemonchus, along with lungworms and grubs, and external parasites such as mites.
The product should be administered only in polypropylene syringes, as it’s incompatible with polycarbonate. Merial will provide an automatic syringe with larger bottles (250 and 500 ml). Producers using the 50-ml bottle are encouraged to use single-dose, disposable polypropylene syringes.

Feed efficiency software
To enhance feeding efficiency with real-time, accurate data, Avery Weigh-Tronix created Feed Foreman Ration Management Software. Feed Foreman allows producers to calculate true feed costs and make daily feeding adjustments based on percentage or head count. This saves time and money by minimizing costly errors, while ensuring high accuracy of the prescribed ration.
The system consists of two components: Feed Foreman software for the company’s user-friendly Model 3060 touch-screen indicator, in addition to Feed Foreman PC software that can be conveniently loaded on operators’ computers. Combined with Avery Weigh-Tronix’s XLR-12 Remote display, the Feed Foreman system is ideal for use as a mid-range feed management system for any size of operation.
