ST. JOSEPH, Mo., March 4, 2009 — AgriLabs is awarding a total of $1,500 for scholarship grants to three state associations as an outcome of its booth promotion at the recent National Cattleman's Beef Association (NCBA) Convention in Phoenix, Arizona. The Nebraska Cattlemen Foundation, Lincoln, Neb.; the Oregon Cattlewomen in Salem, Oregon; and the Oklahoma Cattlewomen, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, each will receive $500 to be used for an educational scholarship for a deserving youth during 2009.
When registering at the AgriLabs booth, convention participants designated which state association would receive a grant if their entries were drawn. Karen Wagon, Quinton, Ok., designating the Oklahoma Cattlewomen; Mrs. David Hamilton, designating the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Foundation and Glenn Barrett designating the Oregon Cattlewomen were the three winning entries drawn during the convention.
“Inviting beef producers to name their favorite NCBA or American National Cattlewomen state affiliate, or the ANCW Foundation, to receive a scholarship grant added even more interest and fun to our booth activity this year,” says Charlie Higdon, business unit manager, AgriLabs. “As a result, an additional $1,500 is in the hands of associations who will use this money to provide scholarships to three young people involved in the beef industry.”
In addition to the scholarship grants, AgriLabs offered a grand-prize drawing of a framed print by rural-American artist Bonnie Mohr. Karen Sweet, Sweet Livestock, Livermore, CA submitted the winning registration card and will receive the signed, numbered litho print titled “Summer Pastures.”
