Novartis Animal Health introduces two Vira Shield 6 combinations featuring 3-way BVD protection for cows and bulls. Vira Shield 6+L5 and Vira Shield 6+VL5 contain noncytopathic (NCP) Type 1, NCP Type 2 and cytopathic Type 1. In addition, the combinations protect against IBR, PI3, BRSV, lepto and vibro when Vira Shield 6+VL5 is used. It's recommended for use in beef heifers, cows and bulls at pre-breeding. Vira Shield 6+L5 is recommended at pregnancy check to build antibodies in the dam prior to calving.

Guard against pinkeye

Maxi/Guard Pinkeye Bacterin, from Addison Biological Laboratory, has received single-dose label approval. Maxi/Guard's extremely low endotoxin levels provide an excellent safety record, and it's safe to use simultaneously with other gram-negative cattle vaccines. Its efficacy exceeds 92% and it's USDA approved for subcutaneous administration.

Premises management system

As part of the National Animal Identification System (NAIS) currently in development, Global Animal Management, Inc., developed the Premises Management System. The Web-based software is a component of a system used to track whole herds and individual animals from their point of origin through their entire lifecycle. The system has received USDA approval, is a compliant premises registration system and supports the implementation of the NAIS program.

Besides enabling efficient premises registration, the entire Global Animal Management system provides states with solutions to individual animal ID, data collection, storage, analysis and reporting.

Agroscan L is a portable device that allows users to detect pregnancy as early as possible after insemination. It comes equipped with a linear rectal probe for determining pregnancy in cows and mares, and has a four-hour battery life before needing to be recharged.
