The cattle industry and animal agriculture in general are being subjected to a seemingly endless stream of new regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency. So much so that Tamara Thies, NCBA’s chief environmental counsel, says it’s almost like the cattle industry is being targeted by the agency.
“Every day it seems like a new regulation is coming out of EPA,” she said in an interview with BEEF Magazine at the 2011 Cattle Industry Convention and NCBA Trade Show. “I think the animal agriculture industry itself is really a target of the EPA right now. We’re being hit with everything from greenhouse gas regulations to unreasonable and unattainable dust regulations to ammonia regulations that they have no authority to pursue.”
