It's no secret that ranching is a noble profession. Feeding the world's people is quite the job. Did you know the average rancher is responsible for feeding 144 people annually? And, with over 1/3 of the world going to bed hungry at night, it's important that farmers and ranchers stay in business to continue to feed the globe. So what can we do to help even further? With the holiday season fast approaching, it's time to be in the giving spirit. Have you donated to your local Salvation Army or Angel Tree program? Have you set aside your time, talent or treasures to give to others?
In the last issue of the Southeast Farm Press, I was pleased to see the lead story titled, "USDA program providing food for hungry." This government program is working to barter overstocked commodities to food aid and nutrition programs on a national and global level.
It is certainly the season for giving, and without a doubt, there are outstanding organizations to invest in this Christmas season. Even though the United States is suffering from a recession and agriculturalists are struggling to keep their operations in tact, now is the time to give to those in need. So what are your favorite charitable organizations? Do you plan on giving this season? Do you know of someone in need that you could use a little extra help this winter? Happy Holidays and God Bless!
