Over the holiday weekend, the temperature dropped, the snow flew and the wind blew across the South Dakota prairie, leaving my husband Tyler and me snowbound at our new place. Although we were snowed in for a while, we eventually were able to make the half-mile trek down to my parents' place to help scoop out feed bunks, thaw out waterers, work on show bulls and sort off the bred heifers in preparation for calving season.
Although we didn't ring in the new year with champagne and fellowship, we did gear up for the months ahead on the ranch. Now the snow has settled and the wind has died down, and we are ready to kick off the new year of 2011.
