Mark your calendars for Oct. 6 in Mandan, ND, to be a part of Team ZIP and run to raise money to educate school kids about beef.
Each time I slip on my tennis shoes and slap on my Team BEEF jersey, I get excited about the opportunity to run on behalf of America’s beef producers and promote beef as the ideal protein for athletes. In the past, I’ve competed in 5Ks and half-marathons, and whether it’s 3 miles or 13, race spectators and fellow runners react with enthusiasm, approaching me to talk about beef and if I’m going for a steak or hamburger after the race.

The best part of Team BEEF is there are beef producers all across the country doing the same thing -- teaming up to get healthy, promote beef and have a good time.
Perhaps you’ve heard of Dane Rauschenberg, who ran 52 marathons in 52 weeks. (That’s 1,362.4 miles just in competitions, if you were wondering!) He is also a member of Team BEEF and is an inspiration to many.
Rauschenberg describes Team BEEF as “a group of beef-loving athletes competing in running, cycling and triathlon events, while spreading the message that beef provides Fuel for the Finish.” He says he joined Team BEEF not only because he loves the taste of beef but loves to share the fact that it’s extremely healthful! In the first ever beef-sponsored event, the North Dakota CattleWomen are hosting Beefin It Up: Fuel For The Finish 5K/10K Run and 5K Walk.

The goal of this event is to raise money to purchase books about beef nutrition to place in North Dakota elementary schools. This unique event will not only support agriculture education in the area, but it will also reinforce the positive beef message to the region’s athletes.
