Christmas is just a couple of weeks away, and it’s starting to look like it in my neck of the woods. After praying for some much-needed moisture, we finally got some in the form of snow. With about a foot of the fluffy stuff on the ground, temperatures dropping and the wind blowing, many in South Dakota and the surrounding states have experienced their first blizzard of the season.
Our cows are still grazing on cornstalks; we’ve been hauling water to them for a couple of weeks now as the stock dam in the adjunct pasture dried up. Now, we may have to start feeding hay, as well.
Ready or not, winter is here; and to keep our spirits up during the cold season, we’ve got plenty of fun prizes and giveaways planned.
That being said, I know many of you are anxious to hear who the winners are in Farm Boy’s “Santa’s Little Ranch Helpers” photography contest. We had some great entries, which we narrowed down to 15 finalists, and you selected our champions. So, without further adieu, congratulations to our winners.
Grand Champion: “Merritt Checking Cows” by Hayley Carraway Moss
Reserve Champion: “Doing Chores With Grandpa" by Miranda Reiman
I also have three Farm Boy hats to give away to participating voters. Our lucky winners are Brandi Gillen, Chris Weber and Mario Martinex.
