Study links women’s happiness to red meat consumption.
I had a steak last night for supper, and I’m happy as a clam in high water! Beef is America’s favorite protein and is associated with happy celebrations. Birthdays, anniversaries, job promotions and date nights are cause for enjoying a juicy ribeye or tender sirloin. Beef is associated with comfort, too, with many enjoying a hot bowl of roast beef stew or meatloaf in the winter months. Summer grilling is the perfect time to get together with friends, and meatballs or steak kabobs are the ideal meal for entertaining.
Beef can complete every occasion, so no wonder it makes us happy! But, a new study now links red meat consumption to improved happiness in women.
According to an Australian news source, “A new study suggests red meat makes you happy. Scientists at Deakin University in Australia found that women who ate less than the recommended amount of beef were twice as likely to be diagnosed with depression or anxiety."
When the researchers took into account the patient's diet, weight, age, physical activity and socioeconomic status, the result remained the same. The scientists involved in the study say there was no relationship between other forms of protein, such as chicken or fish, and mental health.
