Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. Teams Up With Iowa Vets For Box Tops for Scholarships

Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI) is teaming up with the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA) to offer unique scholarships totaling up to $10,000 to graduating seniors at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. The amount of the scholarships will be determined by veterinarians submitting box tops from Pyramid® 5 and Pyramid® 5 + Presponse® SQ product boxes.

Starting on August 1, veterinarians throughout Iowa are encouraged to clip and save their box tops. BIVI will donate $1 per 50 dose box tops of PYRAMID 5 and PYRAMID 5 + PRESPONSE SQ and $1 per five 10 dose box tops of PYRAMID 5 and PYRAMID 5 + PRESPONSE SQ to fund the IVMA Future Service Scholarship presented by Prevention Works from BIVI. BIVI guarantees a minimum of $2,000 for the award and up to $10,000, depending on the number of box tops received. The promotion will run through December 31, 2013.

“The Iowa Veterinary Medical Association and Iowa Veterinary Medical Foundation are extremely excited to be partnering with Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. to provide scholarships to graduating Iowa State University veterinary students intending to practice bovine medicine within the state of Iowa,” says Dr. Jennifer Schleining, clinician at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine and member of the IVMA board of directors.

The scholarships will be presented at Senior Award Night in May 2014. To help fund the scholarships, veterinarians need to send their box tops and submission forms to:

“This scholarship will provide monetary support for educational expenses. Veterinary student educational debt has doubled over the last 10 years leaving many veterinarians struggling in their early careers. Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc., with the support of practicing veterinarians in the state of Iowa, has taken up the cause and is generously supporting tomorrow’s veterinarians. For this, we are very appreciative and we look forward to this important partnership,” Dr. Schleining adds.

The IVMA supports the Iowa Preconditioning Calf Program, and has begun requiring all calves in the Green Tag and Gold Tag programs to receive at least one dose of Mannheimia haemolytica. For veterinarians with customers participating in the preconditioning program, PYRAMID 5 + PRESPONSE SQ meets this new vaccine requirement. For more information on the Iowa Preconditioning Calf Program visit www.iowavma.org.

PYRAMID 5 and PYRAMID 5 + PRESPONSE SQ provide respiratory protection against both viral and bacterial antigens, which can cause BRD in stressed and high-risk calves.
