Did You Participate In Your Local Fair?

The highlight of the summer for many folks is fair season, which largely finishes up this weekend across the Midwest. This week’s online question is “Did you attend or participate in your county or state fair this summer?”

Make sure to tell how the fair went and where you showed in the comments section below.

I did not show livestock, BUT I did show/compete with canned goods and produce (tomatoes, peppers, etc.)

Left the cow / calf pairs home, showed the dairy string at two county fairs, and supported the livestock kids at our home county 4-H livestock auction by purchasing a couple steers and lambs. 'Bout 'faired out' at this point! lol!

Our 10 year old granddaughter took a stocker-feeder calf this year to start her breeding projects for 4-H. She received Reserve Champion. We enjoyed the livestock shows, music,
rodeos and delicious food.

My grandson is 13 and showed his steer. This was his first time and a learning experience for all of us. I have been a superintendent for open class culinary and quilting for 20 years at the Platte Co. fair in Wyoming.

Yes we competed at the local level, our fair is junior only. Did well Supreme Bull, Heifer and Cow Calf. Competed at our state fair both open and Jr and had greats shows in both. Competed open in another county fair nearby and had 4 of 5 champions! The best part was my daughter (11 and her friend 9) selling braided hay twine to fair goers they made $50 and also talked to many people about her cattle on display!

Our County Fair is not until the last of September. I have requested that our local Cattlemen's Association have a booth to help promote the Beef Industry and our State and Local Cattlemen's Associations. After all its called an Agricultural Fair, so why not promote our Industry and the Association. I'm willing to work the booth and I hope others are.

My son is 7, his first year in 4H. He participated in the bucket calf program, woodworking, photography, ag olympics, pedal tractor pull, etc. Aside from the fun, he also learned good lessons on the work it takes to participate on those events, fairgound cleanup, feeding, etc.

We enjoyed a beautiful day at the state fair. Saw the livestock, listened to music and ate plenty of the "sinful" variety of food. I love the fair
