BEEF Poll: Is The U.S. Immigration System Broken?

The chaos of thousands of unaccompanied children from Central America flooding into the U.S. from Mexico has put a glaring spotlight on perceived shortcomings of the U.S. immigration system. Some folks claim the system is broken, while others contend the border must be secured and existing laws enforced. This week’s online poll question asks: “Is the U.S. immigration system broken?” Be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments section after voting.

US should allow In migration only from countries with a fertility rate lower than 2.3 pregnancies per female.

I find it interesting reading the prior comments. One says we need them because we don't have enough other workers. Then why is unemployment so high? ( easier to sit on your XXX and collect a check then have to go to a job every day). There are legal ways to come live and work here. Enforce the laws.

You are so on target!! Try to hire an illegal right now and you are breaking the law. The system is a 2 facer, it is going to break this country totally. We can't help our own people here and Washington wants more money to help illegals. I'm sorry but why doesn't Washington give up their pay checks and all their assets to pay for all of this problems. It's so easy to give at the expense of Taxpayers!! God Bless America cause we will need it!!

The U.S. Government is out of money. Borrow 3.7 billion to house 60,000 children doesn't make sense. Debt will be our downfall. U.S. as we have known it is a thing of the past. Only answer is to secure border and know who enters to work or immigrate.

Our ancestors came to this country the legal way. There is a process to becoming a citizen of this country, if you don't follow the process you are a criminal and should be deported. This country will go broke if this continues, how will you feel when 75% of your income goes to taxes?

There are legal means to immigrate to the USA. People that inter illegally should be deported. We needed to maintain our constitutional republic and abide by law.

The border does not need to be secured! We need Hispanics here to work in Agriculture and Construction. We do not have enough young people to work in these areas. They have to live and drive in fear now and it isn't right.

Our border needs secured for many reasons. What I think should happen is that work visas/permits should be issued after a background check, hopefully that can be done in a day, that would allow workers to come and go home to their families as they like once the background check and a good identity card, fingerprints?, is issued. I agree it is not right for workers to need to live and drive in fear, and for employers to live in fear of penalties. We need to remember we are all immigrants, or the children of immigrants, unless you are an american indian.

People should take a look at their own family heritage before they start to criticize others for seeking freedom. As I remember history, almost all of our families came from other countries to settle in this new land. If Ellis Island would have been closed, where would most of us be? There are always two sides to every argument, and usually neither side is 100 percent correct in their argument. The laws on the books now are not, or have not, been enforced as they should have. Mostly the reason for this is tax money. People don't, or didn't want to pay the tax money to upgrade the law enforcement agencies over the decades, so now we deal with this issue and we are going to have to come off the pocketbook to get it right.
