How Do You Feel About EPA Releasing Producers’ Private Information?

Last week, producer groups reacted angrily to news that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) had released to several activist groups private information on livestock operations inmore than 30 states. This included many family farmers and ranchers not subject to regulation under the Clean Water Act. This week’s online poll question is: “How do you feel about EPA’s release of private producer information to activist groups?”After voting, please leave your comments in the comments section.

This is a drop in the bucket. Next they will want dna sample, blood type, etc. . Can there ever be a safe check and balance system? Way to much information floating around out there now. Put a lid on it now! There is the big eye in the sky so let it watch the epa like it does everybody else. Oh, waite that would be a conflict of interest.

The EPA should not have released this information to these groups because all they will do is harrass and terrorize these farmers and ranchers. These farmers and ranchers jobs are already hard enough and they do not need any more people making it harder for them. While some of the information is very private and should not have been released, it is legal for these groups to request this information per the FOIA. The EPA, no doubt, is making finding this inofrmation very easy for these groups, but on the other hand these groups could have very well found this information on their own. While I am not saying it is right; it is just legal. If farmers and ranchers are abiding by all the laws and regulations that they have too then will have nothing to hide.

The activist groups are not concerned about whether a practice is legal or if research has shown that farmers are using the best methods. HSUS got caged layer production outlawed in California while all research I have seen shows that the layers are better off in cages than when they are housed in large groups. Their goal is to outlaw all use of animals for food or even pets. My old pappy use to say if you drive a car, pay taxes, or run a business you gonna break some law, rule, or regulation!

How Stipid can anyone be, releasing information to activist groups. Farmers and ranchers have a hard enough time dealing with these groups already. Who knows when some terrorist is a member of one or more of these groups. Do the idiots at the EPA not realize the dangers they placed on the food sources for our country and others.
They have also placed farmers, ranchers, their families and employees in a dangerous situation. It appears there needs to be a major house cleaning at the EPA and get someone in there with a little common sense. Seriously heads need to roll over this situation. At any other job, if you released jeopardizing information, you would be hunting a new job or worst.

PUSA nominates head of EPA, confirmed by the senate. He just nominated Gina McCarthy a professional environmentalist. If you don't want her write your senator!

Watch your backs folks, HSUS and PETA will be camping out at your gate with video cameras hoping to catch you doing something
they can object to.

As a country we are on the wrong path creating discrimination with activism. Someone needs to tell the truth the negative side to environmental activists and the cost to the tax payers. Most of these groups harvest tax payers' dollars and are non profit. I had one person complain about my small business tax write off's while he ran a non profit organization promoting fire and tourism.

Did you mean tourism? or terrorism!??

How about letting us Farmers and Ranchers see their personal information and who funds them? Won't happen, that would be violating their rights and hurt their little feelings.

Farmers need a lobbing organization to lobby for their rights similar to NRA that lobbies for gun right. 2 million farmers putting in $25 would raise 50 millions dollars. Farmer need to file class action suits against anti-farm groups and EPA when they do things that harm farms. Ringling Bros just won a law suit against HSUS. AFB has a suit pending against EPA rules. It's time to circle the wagons and bring out the big guns.

I want the names of who gave them out and who the info was given to, and what corrective action was taken. Probably none knowing this administration.

Wow! Just love the three choices to be used as the poll!! The "SunshineAct" as revealed alot to the average citizen for the good of all in this country. Did I vote in the poll ? NO, Let's have a better choice of answers and let us have ALL the FACTS on this subject before asking for a poll.

I don't see this as a poll on the Sunshine Act but as one on government tracking private business and a way of life for many people. This country was founded as government of the people, not the other way around. Few think of the rights they give away when they take money from Washington whether it's for roads, education or whatever!

A perfect example of why the sequester is not bad thing. Urge your elected officials to make it permanent for EPA and other anti-Constitutional, top heavy agencies that apparently have too much time on their hands.

they want to put us out of business

This issue makes me mad. Government has no conscience and we are losing trust in the control of privacy in our lives. How to fight it? A start would be the voting booth.

sounds like blackmail a tactic of a governmet without full control as of yet as is common in communistic countries.

The EPA has become an arm of the extreme groups that really do not have any education about farming or ranching. Environmentalist will wake one day very hungry and no one to feed them.

The information was released to what I perceive as groups who are generally opposed to farmers and ranchers who are doing a good job protecting the enviroment. They said they are just making sure the government is doing their job. Well, these groups shouldn't be doing that job and so I don't think this information should be released. I don't trust the government either. I don't tell the government any more than I need to.

If those ranchers are leasing public properties, then I could see some of that information being availible to the public. I would have to dig into more before I would say one way or the other....

on Mar 1, 2013

The information released by EPA covers CAFOs in more than 30 states, including many family farmers and ranchers who feed less than 1,000 head and are not subject to regulation under the Clean Water Act. At a time when citizens are concerned about and not trusting there government, this just adds to the fire. Maybe none of the information the government has on you is sacred or confidential. They could release it at any time to any one. This is a very dangerous precident that has been set by the ever growing and out of control EPA. They must be reigned in!

Government run amuck. And it could well get worse than this. The EPA is loaded with those with an agenda.
