Despite serving as the governor of Nebraska and Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), U.S. Senator Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) says the experience that taught him the most was going up on a farm.
Sen. Johanns led USDA during the 2008 Farm Bill and reflects on that experience as Congress and the administration work to develop a 2012 bill.
Sen. Johanns has been a staunch supporter of free and open trade. His work eventually led to the passage of free trade agreements with Colombia, Panama and South Korea. He says, "That's where the business is." Sen. Johanns says 95 percent of consumers live outside of the United States.
