"The challenge is how to reach sustainable production of 460 million tons/year by 2050, when there will be nine billion souls on earth," Meat International Permanent Organization director and one of the event organizers Arturo Llavallol tells AFP.

Key to meeting the challenge, he says, is addressing the growing threat to the farming sector posed by "climate change, with its droughts and floods, among other problems."
