PASTURE TO POUNDS: What is BVD and How Is It Transmitted?

See video

Considered as one of the most costly viruses in the cattle industry, Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD) can cause abortions and late pregnancies in the cow-calf herd, as well as impairs immune function, meaning the virus extends its economic thievery to feedlots and stocker pastures. Reduced gain, feed efficiency and other performance losses associated with BVD infection may be the root of some of the most costly damage of BVD.  “Remember, we only pull about one calf out of every two that are sick (due to subclinical infections that can’t be seen),” says Brad Williams, DVM, MBA with Elanco Animal Health.
