Prices Continue Fall
Go ahead and call it a wreck if you want; some analysts are. Calves were $5-$10 lower last week, with some auctions reporting them $12-$17 lower. Direct fed-cattle sales were $3-$3.50 lower at $85-$86. Corn continues to climb and cattle futures continue to drop.
"Feeder-cattle markets have now steadily lost ground for two straight months with little or no bottom-side support... Calf prices have lost $20-$30 since Labor Day and yearlings have lost $15-$20. Many cattle producers are facing a near 20% loss in the value of their product, with much of the Midwest calf crop yet to be sold," say Ag Marketing Service reporters.
The summary below reflects the week ended Nov. 10 for Medium and Large 1 -- 500- to 550-lb., 600- to 650-lb., and 700- to 750-lb. feeder heifers and steers (unless otherwise noted). The list is arranged in descending order by auction volume and represents sales reported in the weekly USDA National Feeder and Stocker Cattle Summary:
