Quarantine officials from South and North Korea met in late March to stem the spread of foot-and-mouth disease in North Korea. South Korea has sent US$280 million in emergency medicine and medical equipment to its Communist neighbor, and plans further assistance. North Korea has culled thousands of infected cows and pigs since July, after which it called on South Korea for help in quelling its spread.
