Bovi-Shield® FP™ Approval
Bovi-Shield® FP™ is the first four-way, modified-live viral vaccine approved by USDA for use in pregnant cows and calves nursing pregnant cows, when used according to label. The Pfizer Animal Health product offers additional flexibility in controlling reproductive and respiratory disease in the beef cattle herd. According to the newly approved label, a pregnant cow must be vaccinated pre-breeding with Bovi-Shield FP before a subsequent dose of the vaccine can be administered during pregnancy. Also, calves nursing pregnant cows may be vaccinated with Bovi-Shield 4 if the dam was vaccinated pre-breeding with Bovi-Shield FP.

Novartis Animal Vaccines announces the addition of Clostri Bos™ BCD, a new toxoid product to aid in the prevention and control of enterotoxemia caused by Clostridium perfringens Types B, C and D in cattle. Approved for use in calves three months of age and older, the product is a single, 1-ml. dose, inactivated product that produces yearlong protection against the major cause of enterotoxemia. It can be administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly.

In addition, the label now also permits pear, tree nut and stonefruit growers to protect their crops from a host of lepidopterous insects. Earlier approval also covered soybean and cotton fields.
