James Simmons Wins Custom John Deere “Tail Gator” XUV

Westminster, SC, resident takes top prize in 2011 Drive Green Challenge Sweepstakes.

James Simmons of Westminster, South Carolina, received a unique New Year’s eve present: The keys to a customized John Deere “Tail Gator” XUV at the Green South Equipment dealership in Carnesville, Georgia. Simmons’ entry was selected from among thousands of entries collected during last year’s Drive Green Challenge that ended June 30, 2011.

The one-of-a-kind “Tail Gator” 825i XUV is outfitted with a sound system, two 47-inch flat-screen televisions, Xbox 360, Apple iPad2, John Deere Generator, Weber gas grill and customized John Deere Gator design and trim. It is similar to a “Tail Gator” XUV that toured the country last spring and summer as part of the John Deere Drive Green Challenge events. The “Tail Gator” XUV has an estimated retail value of $40,300 and was designed by Dragon Fire.

Simmons filled out the winning entry at the Green South Equipment dealership in Carnesville when he and his family attended the Drive Green Challenge event while looking for a new zero-turn mower last summer.

“We were looking for a new mower and a friend of mine had mentioned the Drive Green event at the Green South dealership, so it was a good chance to check out a lot of different equipment,” Simmons says. “When I filled out the entry card as we were leaving, I had no idea we’d win the customized Gator and was thrilled when we heard the news.”

Simmons says he’s not sure what he’s going to do with the “Tail Gator” XUV, but is looking forward to riding it and playing with some of the special features, especially the Apple iPad2.  “My daughters are really excited about getting the Gator home and trying out the sound system and TVs,” he says. “It has so much on it that I’m not sure what we’ll end up doing, but it is certainly a one-of-a kind Gator.”
