South Korea Sets U.S. Beef Import Rules

South Korea has formulated its list of beef cuts ineligible for its market when U.S. beef imports resume early next month. Among the banned products, reports MeatNews.com, are specified risk materials and bone parts, including bones attached to meat. Other cuts include the diaphragm, tongue, cheek meat, offal and hanging tender, as well as all forms of mechanically recovered meat -- ground meat and processed meat products.

In addition, all acceptable products must be from cattle younger than 30 months of age, and South Korean inspectors must approve all slaughter and processing plants. Inspections are to take place March 12-25 with the first shipments to be sold to consumers in early April.
