Cargill’s Sterling Silver® Premium Meats brand supports Extreme Makeover: Home Edition with dinners and stocked freezer

Recipient family and project donors/VIPs enjoy premium beef and pork products during home build project in Wichita, Kansas, home of Cargill’s meat business.

WICHITA, Kan. – Before the assembled crowd screamed the signature phrase, “Move that bus!” to unveil the latest creation of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Cargill’s meat business had stocked the freezer of the new home and provided the main course for two special dinners during construction. The show recently taped an episode in Wichita, which is the headquarters city for Cargill’s U.S. meat operations, and representatives of the company’s Sterling Silver Premium Meats brand, seeing an opportunity to benefit the community, immediately reached out to show producers to offer help.

The project benefitted former Wichita State University All-America baseball player Carl Hall, who was paralyzed from the neck down after a June 26, 2010 car accident. The show selected Hall and his family – wife Stacey and four children – to receive an all-new home that is wheelchair accessible throughout.

To support the effort, Cargill donated a variety of its Sterling Silver® premium beef and pork cuts to stock the freezer in the new home. Sterling Silver brand representatives Matt Novitzke and Deborah Schulte had the opportunity to go on location and personally fill the freezer with meat.

“We at Cargill and the Sterling Silver brand are so proud we could help the people at Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as they delivered this wonderful new home to Carl Hall and his family,” said Ozlem Worpel, brand manager, Sterling Silver Premium Meats. “The show and its producers always do things right, and we wanted to make sure that not only the Halls but also all of the wonderful supporters of this project received the best premium meats to enjoy.”

The main course for VIP dinners at the build site on Feb. 22 and Feb. 23 also featured Sterling Silver products. Lead construction companies, contractors, service providers, corporate donors, show production crew members, show representatives and on-air talent, members of the Hall family and attending news media were among the VIPs dining on Sterling Silver ribeye steaks, pork chops, beef brisket and pork loin. Cargill, in cooperation with local Sterling Silver Premium Meats grocery retail partner, Dillons Food Stores®, provided the meats and worked with a local caterer to prepare and serve it. Sterling Silver and Dillons signage at the dinners informed diners about the products they were enjoying and where they could find the meats in local stores.
