Entries continue to pour in for the BEEF Daily Summer Photography Contest that was launched last week. Farmers and ranchers from across the country are sending in their best cattle photos for a chance to win one of BEEF's fine Western art prints. If you haven't entered yet, don't worry; there is still time! The contest ends at noon on August 19, 2009, so head to your local county fair, pasture, feedlot or anywhere else your cattle may roam with your camera in tow for a chance to snap a photo that could win the top prize! Many of you have been asking to see samples of other photos entered in the contest, so I thought I would share a few that were entered in the first contest earlier this summer. Hopefully, these cattle photos will inspire you to enter, too! Check them out!

By the way, I realized that I haven't shared additional favorite recipes from the Healthy Beef Cookbook lately. Here is what's cooking in my kitchen: Steak with Ginger-Plum Barbecue Sauce. Try it this weekend for a new family favorite!

BEEF Daily Quick Fact: Lean meat’s tender, juicy texture is optimum when cooked to the proper doneness. For steaks, this is medium rare (145°F) to medium (160°F). For burgers, an instant-read thermometer is the only way to ensure that your ground beef is cooked to the proper temperature of 160°F – color and juices don’t tell the whole story.
