Barber, Herman Capture Hereford Bred-and-Owned Heifer Titles

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Reserve champion peewee showman, Rylee Barber, Channing, Texas, could barely see over the top of her senior yearling heifer as she captured the grand champion title in the 198-head bred-and-owned heifer show during the ninth Junior National Hereford Expo (JNHE) in Kansas City on July 17.

Jirl Buck, Madill, Okla., sorted the bred-and-owned females to determine Barber’s heifer as the winner. “This is the major league – great kids, great cattle,” Buck commented.

Barber exhibited the grand and division six champion female, BR DM Hannah 6103, a September 2006 daughter of Remitall Online 122L. The female showed with EPDs of birth weight (BW) 3.2; weaning weight (WW) 58; yearling weight (YW) 96; milk (MM) 24; and milk and growth (M&G) 53.

Reserve grand and division one champion bred-and-owned heifer went to Kasey Herman, Skiatook, Okla., with STAR KKH SSF Onakee 6U ET. The daughter of Remitall Online 122L showed with EPDs of BW 4.5; WW 57; YW 97; MM 21 and M&G 49.

Twelve National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA) members exhibited females in the AI heifer show. This division is for heifers that are a result of participating in the NJHA Junior AI program and allows youth to receive free semen and certificates. Winning champion AI heifer was Marija Crockett, Atchison, Kan., with CRFPH Daisy 7T by Huth Prospector K085.
