Election returns
At press time, Democrats had gained seven U.S. Senate seats, and two others were in recount, inching toward their goal of a filibuster-proof, 60-seat majority. At risk were incumbents Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), ranking member of the Senate Ag Committee; and Norm Coleman (R-MN).
Meanwhile, Democrats had picked up 22 seats in the House of Representatives, and six House races were still undecided.
