A short item in the October issue's BEEF Xpress column (page 6) introducing Steve Kay's page 36 interview with JBS SA's Wesley Batista implied the Brazilian firm was only buying half interest in Five Rivers Ranch Cattle Feeding LLC. JBS is purchasing full interest in Five Rivers, in addition to U.S. packers Smithfield and National. A ruling by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is expected soon.

At press time, DOJ announced it would sue to block the JBS acquisition of National, saying the merger would reduce competition and harm consumers and producers.
